The Friends of AB SEPAC is a non-profit 501(c)(3) created to raise funds to support the activities and mission of the Acton-Boxborough Special Education Parent Advisory Council. Funds go toward bringing in high-quality speakers and workshops for parents and educators, creating valuable resources for our community, and hosting events to connect families.
History: In 2010, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education published its Guidance for Special Education Parent Advisory Councils. This document identified two ways SEPACs could manage their funds, either publicly through their school districts or by creating a private Friends of organization. The Acton-Boxborough Special Education Parent Advisory Council voted to create a Friends of organization to allow direct control of its finances, as requisitioning funds through the public schools can be a cumbersome and time-consuming process. The Friends of AB SpEd PAC, Ltd., was formed in 2011. In June 2018, the Friends organization voted to change its name to doing business as “Friends of AB SEPAC” to reflect the AB SEPAC’s name change. This was formalized in October 2019.
