Here is a list of individuals and private organizations that provide academic support and/or tutoring to children with special needs.

  • Architects for Learning in Needham Heights, MA (781) 235-8412 – founded by Bonnie Singer, Ph.D., CCC  is an organization that provides instruction across a broad range of topics and learning skill areas. In addition they provide speech-language, reading and writing evaluations, school program observations and individualized consultation to assist parents and teachers with educational programming for students of all ages. They are known for writing support using Dr. Singer’s Empower Writing Program.
  • Cognitive Connections, Sarah Ward, M.S., CCC-SLP in Lincoln, MA (781) 453-0841 – Specializes in developing executive function skills including time management, attention, processing, organization, memory and problem solving using research based metacognitive therapy approaches.
  • Institute for Learning and Development in Lexington, MA (781) 861-3711 – Provides educational and psychological services for students of all ages.
  • Carroll School in Lincoln, MA (781) 259-8342 – The Carroll School maintains a list of Orton-Gillingham (OG) trained reading tutors.
  • Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes in Arlington, MA (781) 643-4567 – uses research-validated instructional programs that teach children and adults to read, spell, comprehend, think critically, and express language.
  • Commonwealth Learning Center in Sudbury, MA (978) 579-9914 – This center uses a variety of learning programs including Lindamood-Bell for reading and math, Orton-Gillingham and Wilson Reading Foundations among others.
  • Mathematics for All: The Center for Teaching and Learning Mathematics in Framingham, MA (508) 494-4608 and Wellesley, MA (781) 235-7200 – Professor Mahesh Sharma, President, is an internationally recognized expert in mathematics learning problems and education, particularly dyscalculia and other specific learning disabilities in mathematics. He provides direct evaluation and tutoring for students with mathematics challenges.
  • Miller Learning in Somerville, MA – Susan Miller, Ed.D. (617) 629-4626 – offers year round tutoring. She specializes in reading, language and learning disabilities and tutors children in reading, writing, math and keyboarding.
  • Marijane Raymond, M.Ed. in Concord, MA (978) 369-8623 – offers year round tutoring. She is Special Education certified and trained in Orton-Gillingham and has been tutoring students for over 20 years.
  • Ann Ryan, B.S. in Stow, MA (508) 259-8369 – offers year round tutoring. She is certified in Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing, Project Read: Framing your thoughts (for written expression), Story Form and Report Form (for comprehension), Language! (for at risk and ELL students), Study Skills and Handwriting.
